Hey y'all long time, no blog. 7 months to be exact. I was so excited about this year because 2015 was so incredible. However, as optimistic as I was to start 2016 off with a bang, other things occurred. Without going into detail it felt as though everything was coming down on me all at once. I was stressed and filled with anxiety. The more I tried to control this situation and help myself, the more life said girl NO. I was feeling defeated in every since of the word. So how could I get myself out of this rut while I was still in the midst of the storm. How could I remain positive in a crappy situation? Here is everything I did to shift my outlook.
1. MEDITATE
I tried to "quiet the mind" because it was going a million miles a minute. I found a free meditation center in Decatur and also downloaded an app called Headspace. It offers a free 10 day plan to get you comfortable with meditating. I'm not going to lie. Meditating was hard for me.
2. WRITE IT OUT
Marshall's is the perfect place for cute, cheap journals. I have at least 4 of them that I use to write out my goals, travel plans and affirmations. I write in my "I Am" Journal the most which I only use to write out "I Am" affirmations. I write the words as a noun instead of a verb. For example, instead of "I am loving" it would be "I am love". I got that tip from Iyanla Vanzant. Another thing I got from Marshall's was a cute "gratitude box". I toss quick notes in there, new client invoices, concert tickets... just anything that's a reminder of the little things I'm thankful for.
3. SEEK SUPPORT
I relied heavenly on my Manifest Group Chat to fill my day with encouraging words. It's really dope because we're all likeminded & around the same age. Yet not everyone knows each other or have even met. Mind you we started this group a year ago. So a few months back I started the manifest meetups that I had been talking about doing for the longest so that we could connect.
I started listening to positive podcasts. Lewis Howes is one of my favorites. His guests & the topics they discuss are so diverse. I can always relate to each of them somehow. I'll share more of my favorite podcasts in an upcoming post. In addition to that, I'd also watch motivational youtube videos. Oprah, Iyanla Vanzant & Lisa Nichols were my go to's. Instead of listening to music in the car or while I do my makeup, I'd turn these videos on.
5. READ
Speaking of Lisa Nichols.... I just finished her book "No Matter What" which was a really good read because it had exercises that help you try to figure out how to push through obstacles. I love a good self help book.

What do you do to try to remain standing when you feel like life is knocking you down?
Xo,
I needed to read this; thanks for sharing. I find that having a great support system helps get you through times like this. Knowing that you are not alone and that you have loving people that care and support you makes a word of a difference.
ReplyDeleteYes, having that support is definitely helpful. Thanks for commenting.
